There are 350,000 independent contractors across the US.

The Biden Administration’s final rule on independent contractor classification gonna be started.

ATA(American Trucking Association) and some Representives is now fighting for stop this rule.

I cannot find detail of this new regulation and cannot say anything to this issue,but when I heard about voice of a Independent Contractor and ATA CEO statement, an activities of rulemaking in Japan 　” light van driver “　reminded me.

And ATA President and CEO Chris Spear　says

“I can think of nothing more un-American than for the government to extinguish the freedom of individuals to choose work arrangements that suit their needs and fulfill their ambitions.”

I thought that this issue is about Freedom , ambitions , wellbeing and regulation for some other social value like safety.

Last year Japanese MLIT announced that new safety rule for Independent driver so-called ” 軽貨物ドライバー countermeasure increasing traffic accidents by 軽貨物ドライバー, which caused by ” increasing EC logistics .

　

Traffice accident by 軽貨物　drivers are seems to not be severe accidents.
However if rideshare driver not only 軽貨物ドライバー is going to be increase, small accidents will be seen on the road.

We know that business model of 軽貨物logistics is simply ” light asset , fewer regulation”.

I think a point of view for these kind of ” Independent Contractor or Gig worker” is freedom and well-being context.

Goverment or ministry of XXX should protect a specific industry ? or protect life and happiness of Indivisuals ?
