The American Trucking Associations (ATA) recently released their 2025 year-in-review, titled “Big, Beautiful Year.”
It may serve with an adea and perspective for “2024 Problem” in Japan and some attention to Japanese executives and government officials at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).

Looking Ahead to 2026 from 2025 whitepaper
First week in January 2026, ATA put article about Whitepaper of Trucking industry 2025

- This report provides data on trucking industry size, revenues, employment, safety, and fuel prices
- The U.S. trucking industry has about 580,000 carriers and 8.4 million workers who move 11.27 billion tons of freight
- The market is in a cautious transition — freight demand has stabilized, but excess capacity, soft consumer spending, and trade tensions create uncertainty
- Trucking is a $906 billion industry, with over 99% of companies operating 100 trucks or fewer (small businesses)
- This data helps trucking companies navigate financial and operational challenges in an uncertain 2026
In fact, Trucking industry in Japan is highly fragmented sector and regulator is puting more and more rules on trucking sector, so data-driven benchmarking is no longer optional; it is a survival requirement.
ATA lobbying shows that proactive adaptation to macro-echonomic shit ,especially in Japan “Echonomic Secure” is getting serious day by day and having impacts on any kind of industries.
They know that key features of Trucking industy is over 99% of U.S. trucking companies operating 100 trucks or fewer, the ATA’s focus on providing resources for small carriers mirrors the needs of Japan’s industry.
ATA is moving forward with focus on small players and hope that companies keeps stabilization and continuity their operations.
